Knicks in Search of New Coach: James Borrego in the Orbit
The New York Knicks have set their sights on James Borrego, current associate coach of the New Orleans Pelicans, for a possible interview in search of the head coaching position. Sources close to the situation report this.
Borrego joins the list of candidates that already include Mike Brown, Taylor Jenkins and Micah Nori, who have also been formally interviewed by the Knicks.
Borrego, 47 years old, has experience as the head coach of the Charlotte Hornets, a position he held between 2018 and 2022. During his tenure, the team managed to qualify for the play-in tournament twice, with an overall record of 138-163.
Both Brown and Jenkins have also been head coaches recently, but were fired last season. Nori, for his part, has been working as an assistant in Minnesota since 2021 under the direction of Chris Finch.
The Knicks’ search for a new coach comes after the unexpected decision to fire Thibodeau, who had guided the team to the Eastern Conference finals for the first time in 25 years.
According to sources, several teams have rejected the Knicks’ requests in their search for a head coach this month.
