Stephanie White Absent from Indiana Fever Due to Personal Matters

Indiana Fever coach Stephanie White was not present at Thursday’s game against the Golden State Valkyries due to a personal matter, the team reported. The duration of White’s absence was not specified. Assistant coach Austin Kelly took over as interim head coach for the game, which the Fever lost to Golden State with a score of 88-77. Kelly, who has worked with White since his time with the Connecticut Sun, also assumed the duties of head coach on June 7.

It’s going to be the same. I think we are an extension of each other. The message remains the same as what we talked about in the locker room: play for each other, do well in defense and then let that drive us in attack. But the atmosphere is good.

In her first season with the Fever, White led Indiana to a 6-5 start and the Commissioner’s Cup finals. The Fever is in the midst of a five-game stretch in eight days, including a three-game trip to the West Coast, a back-to-back home and away against the Los Angeles Sparks and then against the Dallas Wings. Kelly mentioned that the priority during this streak is to manage everyone’s playing time.

We are trying to manage everything within the game and then we are going to demand a lot from them so that they receive treatment between games. We are here, in Las Vegas, Seattle, and then back home. It’s about us doing our job on the court, first and foremost, and looking for opportunities during the game to manage those minutes.
