Abinader Oversees Progress on Sports Facilities for the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games

President Luis Abinader inspected the work at the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center this Tuesday, the venue for the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026. According to the president, along with the facilities at Parque del Este, the projects have reached 90% overall completion. During the visit, Abinader highlighted that the works meet international standards, which ensures the success of the games and the possibility of hosting world-class events, including athletics competitions and NBA games. In addition, he announced a friendly match between the Dominican Republic and the United States national teams on July 4th, with the participation of players from the American league. After the sports event, which will be held from July 24 to August 8, all areas will be available for the training of Dominican athletes.

Abinader also indicated that the Government has provided the necessary resources for the execution of the works, which include first-class equipment. Likewise, he expressed his confidence in the performance of Dominican athletes. Regarding the Olympic Village, a complex with 1,200 apartments for the athletes, the Head of State informed that about 600 are already ready and that next week he will carry out a supervision. The Minister of Sports, Kelvin Cruz, described the government’s support as extraordinary. For his part, the president of the Organizing Committee of the games, José Monegro, highlighted the unprecedented magnitude of this edition, with the participation of some 6,200 athletes and the largest number of medals in the country’s sports history. A recent report from the Organizing Committee reveals that disciplines such as table tennis, gymnastics, swimming, archery, hockey, rowing, canoeing, and trap shooting have facilities ready for competition. The facilities of the sub-venue of the XXIV Central American and Caribbean Games are prepared, only requiring some minor maintenance. In the case of equestrian, access for horse mobility and veterinary care have been added, complying with the requirements of the International Equestrian Federation. Among the facilities in the final execution phase are the Handball Pavilion, Combat Pavilion I, and Softball Stadium I. Meanwhile, Combat Pavilion II shows a 65% progress, Soccer Stadium II is scheduled to be delivered in May, as is the baseball stadium. The Sports Palace is in the equipment installation phase and the Olympic Stadium also shows significant progress, with the track and equipment already in the national territory. The skating and skateboarding facilities at the Malecón Deportivo are 90% complete; the velodrome has begun the track adaptation process; the tennis court is in the adaptation phase, in accordance with technical agreements with the corresponding federation. As for disciplines such as bowling and squash, existing and temporary infrastructures will be used, including the Plaza Bolera and a facility in a conditioned commercial space.
