New Gymnastics Pavilion: A Legacy for Dominican Sports

The Parque del Este is transformed with the delivery of the renovated Gymnastics Pavilion, a high-precision center for athletes. The Vice President of the Republic, Raquel Peña, and the Minister of Housing, Habitat and Buildings (MIVHED), Víctor – Ito – Bisonó, led the ceremony for the delivery of the remodeling works. This intervention, key in the preparation for the Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026, ensures first-class facilities for athletes.

“We are meeting the established schedule, delivering each installation on time and with the standards required by an event of this magnitude. Our commitment is that the country arrives in Santo Domingo 2026 with ready, functional works that are up to the standards of its athletes.”

Minister Bisonó highlighted the MIVHED’s commitment to the construction and dignification of these facilities. He called on sports authorities, federations, and athletes to ensure their care and responsible use, preserving this legacy for Dominican families. The Minister of Sports, Kelvin Cruz, validated the construction and confirmed that it meets the requirements for the athletes. With only 99 days until the start of the Games, the delivery schedule is progressing well.

“We are going to receive 36 countries that make up Centro Caribe Sport and more than six thousand athletes who will be here showcasing their sporting abilities. We are prepared to have a good competition,” he said.

José P. Monegro, president of the Organizing Committee of the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games, highlighted the importance of this pavilion, emphasizing it as one of the most impressive in the region.

Renewal Details

The renovation covered 10,785.48 square meters, optimizing each space for athletes and spectators. It includes a competition area of about 2,800 square meters with specialized lighting for television broadcasts and technical precision.

  • Capacity for 3,623 people, with modern stands, VIP boxes and press areas.
  • Health areas, specialized medical zones and massage areas.
  • Differentiated gyms for children and adults, referee areas and latest generation locker rooms.
  • Cafeteria, Snack Bar and inclusive bathrooms.
  • Closed Circuit Television systems, high-speed data networks and renovation of electrical and sanitary systems.
The total investment in the renovation of the gymnastics pavilion was RD$260.3 million pesos. This delivery demonstrates the government’s commitment to sports and the success of the upcoming Central American and Caribbean Games. The Gymnastics Pavilion will be the official venue and a legacy for the development of young talent in Santo Domingo Este. In the event, various authorities from the sports and governmental sectors participated.
