Messi Reaches 900 Goals, but Inter Miami is Eliminated from the Concachampions
Lionel Messi, the Argentinian superstar, has reached an impressive milestone by scoring his number 900 goal in official matches. This historic achievement took place during the second leg of the Concacaf Champions Cup, where Inter Miami faced Nashville SC. The match, which ended in a 1-1 draw, marked Inter Miami’s elimination due to the away goals rule, as the first leg ended goalless. Cristian Espinoza’s goal for Nashville proved decisive, nullifying Messi’s opening goal and securing his team’s advancement. Messi, eager to reach the 900-goal mark, didn’t take long to make his mark on the match. In the first ten minutes, he received a pass inside the area, shifted to his left, and launched a cross-shot that put Inter Miami ahead. However, a goal by Espinoza in the second half, after a confusing episode in front of the goal, tied the score. Despite Inter Miami’s efforts in the final minutes, they failed to score the goal that would give them the victory and a place in the next round.Clearly, it’s a very sad night, full of disappointment. We had high hopes of advancing in the competition, a tie that was very even, and today we went ahead on the scoreboard. We had several chances to score another goal or two, especially in the first half. Well, the match was clearly in play, as it was a very close game against a formidable opponent. Unfortunately, we conceded a goal after a somewhat unfortunate sequence of events; things happen, and we ended up being eliminated. The reality is that I have absolutely nothing to reproach the players. They gave their all and did everything humanly possible; ultimately, the person really responsible for this elimination is me.
Javier Mascherano, Inter Miami coach
