Gigantes del Cibao Secure Jimmy Cordero for Two Seasons

San Francisco de Macorís – The Gigantes del Cibao have announced the signing of right-handed pitcher Jimmy Cordero, who will remain with the team after agreeing to a free agent contract for the next two seasons of the Dominican Republic Professional Baseball League (LIDOM).

Cordero, 34 years old and originally from San Cristobal, will continue to reinforce the team’s relief pitchers. His arrival to the team occurred last season through a trade, joining pitchers Wilber Dotel and Fernando Abad, in addition to outfielder Ricardo Céspedes.

The experienced reliever was originally selected by the Leones del Escogido in the 2014 rookie draft. His career in the LIDOM spans nine seasons, establishing himself as one of the most reliable arms from the bullpen.

In his regular season career, Cordero has a 2-4 record with an ERA of 2.84 in 97 games. He has pitched 95.0 innings, with a WHIP of 1.27. During this time, he has accumulated 18 saves, allowing 83 hits, issuing 38 walks, and striking out 87 batters.

In the postseason, he has participated on four occasions, achieving three saves and 29 strikeouts in 25.0 innings, demonstrating his ability to perform in high-pressure situations.

His performance with the Gigantes del Cibao in the previous season was crucial for the team’s relief, showing an ERA of 1.08 in eight appearances, with a record of 0-0. In 8.1 innings pitched, he struck out 11 batters, conceded three walks and finished with an excellent WHIP of 0.72.
