Former WWE CEO Vince McMahon is at the center of controversy following a car accident on a Connecticut highway. The incident, which involved his Bentley and two other vehicles, occurred a few hours before the news of the death of Hulk Hogan, a wrestling legend, who was praised by McMahon, was announced.
According to state police reports, McMahon was cited for reckless driving and following another vehicle too closely. The accident took place last Thursday on the Merritt Parkway in Westport. Fortunately, there were no injuries.
McMahon was released after posting a $500 bond and is due to appear before Stamford Superior Court on August 26. So far, McMahon’s representatives have not issued any statement.
The accident was initially reported by TMZ on Tuesday.
Photographs taken by Barbara Doran, one of the people involved in the accident, revealed significant damage to the front of McMahon’s 2024 Bentley Continental GT Speed, which was being towed in Westport. The images also showed damage to the rear of Doran’s BMW 430.
The police report indicates that McMahon, who was driving north on the highway, rear-ended the BMW and then crashed into a wooden guardrail. A vehicle traveling in the southbound lanes collided with debris from the accident that flew over the guardrail.
According to the police, there were no passengers in any of the vehicles and all three drivers were wearing seatbelts. McMahon’s car airbags deployed, while Doran’s did not.
I was in the right lane and, suddenly, boom! I was hit from behind and catapulted forward, and you can see the tire marks where I was desperately trying to stay on the road.
Barbara DoranDoran stated that a state police officer informed him that the other driver was McMahon, whom he didn’t know well. He recounted that he spoke with McMahon after the crash.McMahon stepped down as WWE CEO in 2022, amid an internal investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct. Last year, he also resigned as executive chairman of the TKO Group Holdings board of directors, WWE’s parent company, one day after a former WWE employee filed a lawsuit against him for sexual abuse. McMahon has denied the allegations, and the lawsuit is ongoing. In 1982, McMahon acquired the then World Wrestling Federation, transforming it from a regional wrestling company into a global phenomenon. In addition to running the company with his wife, Linda, who is currently the U.S. Secretary of Education, McMahon also participated in WWE events as a character. He just, you know, expressed concern, was glad I was okay and all that. And I thanked him for his concern.
