John Cena: The Farewell of a Legend in WWE

The wrestling world is preparing to bid farewell to one of its most emblematic figures: John Cena. The iconic wrestler, who began his “retirement tour” during the debut of “Monday Night Raw” on Netflix on January 6th, has announced that 2025 will be his last year in the ring, with an estimated 30 to 40 matches to close out his career. During his appearance at the Intuit Dome, Cena hinted at possible rivals for his final match, names like Logan Paul, CM Punk or Roman Reigns. Join us to review the key moments of “The Last Time is Now John Cena Farewell Tour”.

WWE Night of Champions – June 28th

Facing one of the most important rivals of his career, Cena defeated CM Punk in a chaotic encounter with multiple interruptions and referees out of action. At one point, Punk requested a new referee, but Seth Rollins, winner of the Money in the Bank, appeared on the scene. Rollins, accompanied by Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed, attacked Punk. Then, Rollins asked for a referee to cash in his briefcase. However, Cena knocked down the new referee, which led to a confrontation between him and Rollins.
Towards the end of the match, Cena and Punk shook hands and hugged, but Cena changed the situation and attempted his finishing move. Punk dodged, but Rollins attacked Punk with his briefcase. Moments later, Cena pinned Punk to retain his title.

WWE Money in the Bank – June 7

Teaming with Logan Paul against Cody Rhodes and Jey Uso, Cena dominated at first, but a conflict in the ring with Paul allowed Rhodes and Uso to get back into the match.
At the end, the surprising appearance of R-Truth was the decisive factor in this chaotic encounter, as Rhodes finally pinned Cena for the victory.

WWE Backlash – May 10th

Cena faced Randy Orton, two wrestling legends face to face in what could be their last encounter. Both wrestlers exchanged blows in a back-and-forth match, with Cena accidentally hitting a referee with the championship belt and Orton applying RKO after RKO to the intruders.

As Orton was about to finish Cena, R-Truth intervened. Orton applied an RKO, but Cena hit him with the championship belt and covered him, winning the match.

WrestleMania – April 20th

Everything came down to this: Cena faced Cody Rhodes for a chance to become the Undisputed WWE Champion. The memorable match lasted just under 20 minutes and included an appearance by rapper Travis Scott. Cena ended up winning his 17th WWE championship, the most in history.

Booed in Brussels – March 17

“I am not a villain, I am a human being.” John Cena made it clear that he was done playing the hero in an appearance on Monday Night Raw in Belgium. The WWE icon fully embraced his shocking change of attitude with a venomous diatribe directed straight at the fans.

“For 25 years, I have been the victim of an abusive relationship. All I did was work hard and earn. And what did I get in return? Hate. It was never enough for you”.

“I don’t need them,” he continued, intensifying the hostility as the crowd erupted in boos. But the WWE champion, Cody Rhodes, didn’t stay silent. “Where’s the guy on this shirt, right here?” Rhodes said, pointing to the illustration of Cena doing his signature salute on his shirt. Calling Cena “whiny,” he set the stage for their clash at WrestleMania 41, a massive showdown scheduled for April 19 in Las Vegas.

Attitude Change at Elimination Chamber – March 1st

In his latest WWE Elimination Chamber match, Cena and his old rival CM Punk were the last two wrestlers standing. Cena prevailed over Punk, winning his fourth Chamber match, tying the record and securing his place at WrestleMania 41.
Later, after Cody Rhodes rejected The Rock’s offer for his soul, Cena turned heel and brutally attacked Rhodes after initially shaking his hand and hugging him. As a result of winning the Elimination Chamber match, Cena will challenge Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship at WrestleMania 41.

A defeat in his last Royal Rumble – February 1st

Cena seemed to be on the verge of winning his third Royal Rumble, with only Jey Uso in his way. However, Uso reacted, eliminating Cena from the ring and surprising the wrestling world.

Goodbye, Los Angeles. Hello, Indianapolis – January 6th

“Not only am I going to the Royal Rumble, I’m going to win the Royal Rumble!” Cena shared that the first Monday Night Raw show of the year would be his last appearance in WWE in Los Angeles. After thanking Los Angeles, and more specifically, Inglewood, he made a statement implying that he was looking to obtain his 17th world championship, which would break his tie with Ric Flair for the most in WWE history. While reviewing the options on how he could achieve that goal, Cena decided on the Royal Rumble before declaring that he would win it. The Royal Rumble will take place on February 1st in Indianapolis, at Lucas Oil Stadium. WWE shared on Instagram:
