The final hour has arrived! John Cena, undisputed WWE legend, prepares for his farewell from the ring, marking the beginning of his “retirement tour” with the debut of “Monday Night Raw” on Netflix on January 6th. After competing part-time since 2018, Cena announced in July 2024 that he plans to participate in 30 to 40 matches in 2025, thus culminating his last year in professional wrestling. On September 30, WWE confirmed that Cena’s final match will take place on December 13 at the Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C. Cena’s opponent will be determined through the “The Last Time Is Now” tournament.

The Best of John Cena’s Farewell Tour

Last ‘Monday Night Raw’ – November 17: Cena’s last “Monday Night Raw” was held at Madison Square Garden, the scene of some of his most iconic moments in WWE, such as his surprising return and victory at the 2008 Royal Rumble and his first WWE championship at Wrestlemania XX.

During his speech in the ring, Dominik Mysterio interrupted Cena after losing his Intercontinental Champion belt to Cena on November 10 on “Raw”. Mysterio and Cena agreed to a rematch for the title at Survivor Series in San Diego. However, Mysterio attacked Cena with the help of Finn Bálor and JD McDonagh, who stormed the ring. Sheamus and Rey Mysterio quickly came to support Cena.
After regaining control of the ring, they challenged Dominik Mysterio, Bálor, and McDonagh to a six-man tag team match. Cena, Sheamus, and Rey Mysterio emerged victorious in a match that included a synchronized “Five-Knuckle Shuffle”.

‘Monday Night Raw’ in Boston – November 10: In his home state of Massachusetts, Cena made history once again. He faced Intercontinental Champion Dominik Mysterio in a match that Triple H, WWE CCO, made possible in the ring moments before.

Mysterio, Intercontinental champion for 204 days, seemed to be in the best position to retain his title. He applied a “619” and a “Frog Splash” to Cena, and attempted the pin. However, Cena got out and executed his “Attitude Adjustment”. Cena applied the move and then pinned Mysterio to win the match. With this victory, Cena became the last WWE wrestler to be a “Grand Slam” champion, that is, to have held all the important WWE titles (Intercontinental Championship, Tag Team Championship, Heavyweight Championship and United States Championship).

Crown Jewel – October 11: In the last match of one of WWE’s best rivalries, Cena defeated AJ Styles in Perth, Australia.

Cena and Styles pulled out all the stops for this match. Cena executed the finishing moves of multiple WWE superstars, including an RKO (Randy Orton), a Skull Crushing Finale (The Miz), and a Tombstone (The Undertaker). Styles paid tribute to Shawn Michaels with a Sweet Chin Music. In the end, Cena emerged victorious in a match that left the crowd chanting “Thank you, Cena” and a hug between the two wrestlers in the ring. The Undertaker also published his approval of the match.
Wrestlepalooza – September 20th: Cena faced his old rival Brock Lesnar. Despite Cena applying three “Attitude Adjustments” at the beginning, Lesnar was too much for him. However, the audience applauded Cena’s efforts, and he is likely to have another opportunity against Lesnar in his five remaining matches before his retirement.

WWE Clash in Paris – September 1st: Cena made the most of his last European match, defeating Logan Paul in a very disputed encounter. The Parisian public received Cena with an [electric interpretation](https://x.com/WWE/status/1962251028176237041) of his musical theme and a [Five-Knuckle Shuffle](https://x.com/WWE/status/1962254318402175459).

Cena pulled out all the stops, even applying a Styles Clash to Paul. He collapsed after his final “Attitude Adjustment” and covered Paul for the victory.

WWE SummerSlam – August 3: After a “heel” (villain) turn a little over five months before SummerSlam, Cena returned to being a “baby face” (hero), running with his classic entrance before facing Cody Rhodes in a street fight.

What followed was an epic match that exceeded 30 minutes and concluded with Rhodes defeating Cena to win the WWE Championship, ending Cena’s reign that began at Wrestlemania 41 in April. Just before Rhodes applied his final move and covered Cena to win, he saluted the legendary wrestler in a memorable encounter. The two shared a hug in the ring after the match when Cena raised Rhodes’ hand.
Then, Rhodes left Cena alone in the ring to enjoy the moment, only for Brock Lesnar, one of Cena’s biggest rivals, to make a surprise entrance. Lesnar then applied his finishing move, the F-5, on Cena, putting a golden touch on SummerSlam.
WWE Night of Champions – June 28: Facing one of the biggest rivals of his career, Cena defeated CM Punk in a chaotic match with multiple interruptions and knocked-out referees.

The first time this happened, Punk asked for a new referee from the back, only for the Money in the Bank winner, Seth Rollins, to come out. Rollins arrived at the ring with Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed, who threw Punk against a commentary table. Rollins then stood in the ring and asked for a referee to cash in his briefcase.

Towards the end of the match, Cena and Punk shook hands and embraced, only for Cena to turn on him and attempt his finishing move. Punk countered correctly, but Rollins responded by hitting Punk with his briefcase. Moments later, Cena pinned Punk to retain his title.

WWE Money in the Bank – June 7: Teaming with Logan Paul against Cody Rhodes and Jey Uso, Cena dominated at first, but a conflict in the ring with Paul allowed Rhodes and Uso to get back into the match.
In the end, a surprise appearance by R-Truth was the deciding factor in this chaotic match, as Rhodes would ultimately pin Cena for the victory.
WWE Backlash – May 10: Cena faced Randy Orton, two legendary wrestlers who faced each other for what could be the last time in their careers. Both fighters exchanged blows in a back-and-forth match, with Cena accidentally hitting a referee with the championship belt and Orton applying RKO after RKO after RKO to the intruders.
When Orton moved to finish Cena, R-Truth intervened. While Orton was applying an RKO, Cena hit him with the championship belt and pinned him, winning the match.

The final WrestleMania – April 20: It all came down to this: Cena faced Cody Rhodes for the opportunity to become the Undisputed WWE Champion.

The memorable match lasted just under 20 minutes and included an appearance by rapper Travis Scott. Cena ended up winning his seventeenth WWE championship, the most in history.

Booed in Brussels – March 17: “I am not a heel, I am a human being”.

John Cena made it clear that he was done playing the hero in an appearance on Monday Night Raw in Belgium. The WWE icon fully embraced his shocking “heel” turn with a venomous diatribe directed straight at the fans. “For 25 years, I have been the victim of an abusive relationship,” she declared. “All I did was work hard and earn. And what did I get for it? Hate. It was never enough for you.” “I don’t need them,” he continued, intensifying the hostility as the crowd erupted in
