Ross is widely known for his outstanding career in World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) from 1993 to 2013. His iconic phrases have become ingrained in popular culture, solidifying him as one of the most beloved voices in the history of wrestling. His most famous phrase, “My God” or “By God”, pronounced with his Oklahoma accent after an impactful moment, is perhaps the most emblematic. Other expressions like “He’s broken in half” and “That man has a family” often replace the original commentary in American football highlights on social media. Ross is a fervent follower and promoter of the American football team Oklahoma Sooners, and has frequently walked to the ring with the school’s fight song, “Boomer Sooner”. Inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2007, Ross has been with All Elite Wrestling (AEW) since 2019. All Elite Wrestling issued a statement in support of Jim Ross.

“All Elite Wrestling joins fans around the world to send love and support to Jim Ross as he battles colon cancer. J.R. is a valued member of the AEW family, and we stand by him during his journey to recovery,” stated AEW.
