Jim Ross is widely known for his extensive career in World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), from 1993 to 2013. His iconic phrases have transcended popular culture, solidifying him as one of the most beloved voices in the history of wrestling. His exclamation “My God” or “By God”, pronounced with his Oklahoma accent after shocking moments, is perhaps his most emblematic phrase. Other expressions such as “He’s broken in half” and “That man has a family” are frequently used on social media. Ross is a fervent follower and promoter of the American football team Oklahoma Sooners. He has often walked to the ring with the school’s fight song, “Boomer Sooner,” playing. Inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2007, Ross has been with All Elite Wrestling (AEW) since 2019. In a statement, AEW expressed its support for Ross:

“All Elite Wrestling joins fans around the world in sending love and support to Jim Ross as he battles colon cancer. J.R. is a valued member of the AEW family, and we stand by him during his journey to recovery,” stated AEW.
