Decline in WNBA All-Star Game Viewership, but Still a Good Number
The absence of Caitlin Clark, star of the Indiana Fever, due to an injury, impacted the viewership figures of this Saturday’s WNBA All-Star Game. Despite a 36% decrease compared to the previous year, the event broadcast on ABC attracted a considerable number of viewers, positioning itself as the second most-watched event in the game’s history.
The meeting held in Indianapolis was followed by 2.19 million viewers. Although this figure is lower than last year’s 3.44 million, which set a record, the game remained the most-watched program of the night on television.
Caitlin Clark, who participated as a rookie in the 2024 All-Star Game, was unable to play this year due to a groin injury.
Napheesa Collier, star of the Minnesota Lynx, shined in the game by scoring 36 points, setting a new record and leading Team Collier to a 151-131 victory over Team Clark.
This was the third consecutive year that ABC broadcast the All-Star Game in prime time. The 2023 game drew 850,000 viewers.
The other All-Star weekend events were also successful. Friday’s skills challenge and three-point contest drew an average of 1.3 million viewers on ESPN, representing a significant 89% increase compared to the previous year.
