Dallas Wings guard Ty Harris will not play the rest of the season after undergoing successful surgery on her left knee, the team announced Tuesday.
Harris only played in five games this season before being absent for the final weeks due to a knee problem. Last season, Harris played a key role for the Sun, starting in all but one regular season game.
This absence represents a hard blow to the Wings’ depth at the guard position, which could mean more playing time and responsibilities for the number 1 draft pick, Paige Bueckers.
However, Bueckers has been absent since May 29, first due to the league’s concussion protocol and then due to illness. The Wings have been playing with only nine available players in recent games due to injuries to Harris and Bueckers, as well as the absence of Teaira McCowan, who left the team to participate in the EuroBasket.
Bueckers is expected to be available to return on Wednesday, when the Wings face the Mercury. But without Harris, she will have less time to recover.
He will have to help compensate for Harris’ 4.6 points, 1.0 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 16 minutes of playing time.
