Las Vegas Aces Sets Record and Rises in the WNBA

The Las Vegas Aces continue their dominance in the WNBA season, securing a crucial victory against the Atlanta Dream with a score of 81-75. This triumph not only represents a milestone for the team, but also propels them in the overall standings. With this victory, the Aces equal a franchise record by obtaining their twelfth consecutive victory, an achievement that highlights the team’s consistency and exceptional performance. A’ja Wilson’s performance was fundamental to the victory, accumulating 34 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 blocks. Jackie Young also shone, achieving her second triple-double of the season with 10 points, 10 assists, and 11 rebounds. The Aces join a select group of WNBA teams, being the tenth to achieve at least twelve consecutive wins in a season. A’ja Wilson has proven to be an unstoppable force on the court, with 11 games of 30 or more points this season, matching her personal best set last year. Wilson set a WNBA record for the most games in a season with 30 or more points, shooting 60% or better from the field.

I try to make my workouts and practices very similar to the games, so that it’s familiar. I can figure out how to get to my spots and be productive for my team. That comes from understanding who I am and where I want to go.

A’ja Wilson
A'ja Wilson had her 11th 30-point game of the season, finishing with 34 in Wednesday night's win over the Dream.
Wilson scored 13 of 21 field goals on Wednesday in Atlanta, and tied his season high with two three-pointers. After the game, Wilson joked: “Don’t call me Curry”, referring to NBA three-point legend Stephen Curry. Her two long-distance shots were crucial in tilting the game in favor of the Aces. With the score tied 48-48 with 2:55 left in the third quarter, Wilson scored the first of two consecutive three-pointers and then a 10-foot shot for her own 8-0 run. Loyd closed the quarter by scoring five more points for a 61-48 lead. The Aces managed to fend off the Dream’s comeback attempt in the final quarter, with Loyd and Chelsea Gray hitting key three-pointers in the final minute. With a 26-14 record this season, the Aces have an impressive 15-3 record since the All-Star break and finished August with 12-1. They have four games left in the regular season, including three at home, and will not play again until September 4. The focus is on the matchup against the Lynx (30-7) in Las Vegas.

This is our eighth game in 15 days. I was very concerned about our legs going into this game. When you talk about gears and that ability to go up an extra step, we’ve really been able to do it on the defensive end. And it’s winning us games. Really, one of our quality team wins tonight: proof of courage, resilience, toughness.
