Las Vegas Aces: Winning Streak Extends to 13 Games

Las Vegas Aces, the current WNBA champions, continue their impressive winning streak, reaching a franchise record of 13 consecutive games. The team achieved this feat on Thursday night by defeating the Minnesota Lynx with a score of 97-87 at the T-Mobile Center in Las Vegas. With a record of 27-14, the Aces are tied for second place in the conference with the Atlanta Dream and the Phoenix Mercury. However, thanks to their results in the regular season, the Aces have the tiebreaker advantage against both teams. Minnesota, with a 32-9 record, has already secured the top spot and home-court advantage throughout the playoffs. Despite this, the Aces aim to secure the second place, which would allow them to avoid the Lynx until a possible WNBA final.

The Aces suffered three consecutive losses against the Lynx, including an overwhelming 111-58 defeat on August 2, which brought them to a 14-14 record. That game marked a turning point in their season, and they haven’t lost since.

We were embarrassed the last time we played against them. It was pretty clear.

Las Vegas coach Becky Hammon knew that if her team could assemble the pieces, they could start a streak. Las Vegas owns the longest winning streak in the WNBA since the Connecticut Sun won 14 straight games in 2021.

When you’re losing, you have to fight human nature and question yourself. You have to stand firm in what you believe. There is a certain way that I believe this team has to play to win, and you really have to stick to that.

The league is likely paying attention to the performance of the two-time WNBA champions over the last month. A’ja Wilson, who scored 31 points on Thursday, tying a league record with her 12th game of 30 or more points in a season, has led the way. She was 12 of 15 from the field and added eight rebounds against the Lynx. Jackie Young scored 20 points for Las Vegas, while Gray contributed 13 points and 10 assists. Wilson is making a strong case for her fourth MVP award. The other main contenders are Minnesota’s Napheesa Collier, who scored 12 points and six rebounds in the loss, and Phoenix’s Alyssa Thomas, who had 12 points, 11 rebounds, and 9 assists in the Mercury’s 75-69 victory in Washington on Thursday.

We really had to learn to believe in each other. Even Becky… she was saying, ‘You guys have to figure it out,’ because it’s on us.

Hammon has said that she hasn’t paid much attention to the winning streak, but rather focuses on continuing to climb in the standings. The Aces have three regular season games left: two at home against Chicago and then in Los Angeles.

We are focused on the next game. You can keep the winning streak going.
