Toronto Tempo Selects Sixth in WNBA Draft
After a draw held on Friday, the Toronto Tempo team has secured the sixth selection in the first round of the next WNBA draft, scheduled for April 13.
This means that the other new team for 2026, the Portland Fire, will have the first pick in the expansion draft for both franchises. This expansion draft will take place on April 3rd.
Subsequently, the Fire will select at the number 7 position in the first round of the standard draft.
The expansion draft will consist of two rounds with 12 selections in each. Portland and Toronto will alternate selections and choose from a designated group of players who are not protected by the other 13 teams.
For Sunday, the teams must submit to the league a list of five protected players who will not be available for selection in the expansion draft.
In general, Toronto will have picks number 6, 22 and 36 in the standard draft, while Portland will have picks number 7, 21 and 37.
The draw result also gives Tempo the first position on the waiver list.
