Sparks’ Rae Burrell Out With Injury

Los Angeles Sparks guard Rae Burrell will be out for six to eight weeks due to a right leg injury, the team announced on Saturday.

The Sparks reported that a full recovery is expected for Burrell.

The injury occurred after a collision with Golden State Valkyries guard Carla Leite in the first quarter of Friday’s season opener. Burrell was attempting to defend a three-point attempt when Leite fell on her right leg.

Burrell fell to the floor and remained there for several minutes before being assisted and taken off the court. She was examined during halftime and subsequently ruled out. She only played 41 seconds. The Sparks won the game 84-67.

Burrell, 24, is a fourth-year veteran from Tennessee. Last season, she averaged 5.9 points in just over 15 minutes per game.
