Angel Reese Suspended by the Chicago Sky
Chicago Sky star Angel Reese was suspended by the team for the first half of Sunday’s game against Las Vegas. The reason for the suspension was comments considered “detrimental to the team.” The official announcement was made on Friday. This suspension adds to Reese’s absence from Friday night’s game against Indiana, due to a mandatory one-game suspension by the WNBA, after accumulating her eighth technical foul of the season. The two-time All-Star had expressed his frustration with the franchise, commenting to the press that “he might have to take a different direction and do what’s best for him” if the team didn’t improve its performance. However, he retracted these statements after Wednesday’s victory against Connecticut. Previously, he had already apologized to the team. The Sky has a 10-30 record in the season. Reese, selected at the number 7 spot in the WNBA draft last season, averages 14.7 points and leads the league with 12.6 rebounds. She has at least one season left on her rookie contract.“The Chicago Sky values the safety, respect, and well-being of each player. We are committed to responsibility so that our players can focus on playing basketball,” the team stated in a statement. “This matter has been handled and resolved internally, and we are moving forward as a team.”
