The Chicago Sky have decided to dispense with the services of experienced point guard Moriah Jefferson, after two seasons with the team. The news was confirmed on Monday, marking a change in the team’s roster.
Jefferson, 31, arrived at the Sky in a trade in July of last season, coming from the Connecticut Sun. In the five games he played this season, including one start, he averaged 1.4 points and 1.8 assists.
Jefferson’s career in the WNBA is remarkable. She was the second overall pick in the 2016 draft, chosen by the San Antonio Stars. Throughout her career, she has played for six different franchises, accumulating 207 games, of which she started 144. Her numbers reflect an average of 8.3 points and 3.3 assists per game.
In her debut season, Jefferson proved her worth and was runner-up in the Rookie of the Year award voting.
Before her time in the professional league, Jefferson had a distinguished college career. She was a four-time NCAA champion with UConn, between 2013 and 2016, and was named to the first All-America team in 2016.
