Maddy Siegrist Returns Strong to the Wings After Injury

Dallas Wings forward Maddy Siegrist proved her worth in her return to the court after an 18-game absence due to a knee injury. Siegrist scored 13 points in the Wings’ loss to the New York Liberty on Tuesday night, with a score of 85-76.

Wings coach Chris Koclanes limited Siegrist’s minutes against the Liberty, playing a total of 15 minutes. Siegrist, who grew up in Poughkeepsie, New York, joked during shooting practice saying he would have to ask the 150 friends present not to chant so he would play more.

His impact was immediate, scoring almost instantly upon entering the game, four minutes after the start of the first quarter.

Siegrist, who was the NCAA Division I’s top scorer ahead of Caitlin Clark when she played for Villanova in 2022-23, was limited to 11 games in a rookie season plagued by injuries two years ago. She averaged 9.4 points and 5.2 rebounds in those 11 games, achieving her only double-double of the season with 15 points and 11 rebounds in the game before her injury, an 81-65 loss to the Minnesota Lynx on June 8.

I’m excited. Oh, my God, yes. I’m excited to go back out there. As a competitor, you always have expectations. I just want to feel good and comfortable. My minutes will be limited, so that takes a little pressure off.
