Sandy Brondello has accepted the head coaching position for the expansion team Toronto Tempo, a source has confirmed.

The team is expected to make the official announcement in the coming days, once the contract is finalized.

Brondello received significant interest from several organizations before deciding on Toronto, which will begin playing in 2026 along with another WNBA expansion team, the Portland Fire.

The Tempo will play their games at the Coca Cola Coliseum in Toronto, in addition to playing two regular season games in Montreal and two in Vancouver.

Brondello has an outstanding career in the league, being selected as an All-Star player in 1999 and leading the Phoenix Mercury and New York Liberty to WNBA titles as a coach in 2014 and 2024, respectively. Her contract with the Liberty was not renewed after their elimination in the first round of the playoffs last season.

In addition, Brondello coaches the Australian national team, the Opals, and recently led the team to a bronze medal at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

With the Tempo’s head coaching position already filled, the only remaining vacancies are with the Dallas Wings, Seattle Storm, and Liberty.
