Katie Lou Samuelson will miss the 2025 WNBA season due to a knee injury

Seattle Storm star forward Katie Lou Samuelson will miss the 2025 WNBA season due to a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in her right knee, suffered during a team practice on May 1. The news, although expected, represents a harsh blow for the player and the team.

This is pretty tough. It’s a pretty difficult challenge to handle right now, for my season to end like this. I’ve had little annoyances that I’ve always been able to play through.

Samuelson, 27, had a promising start in training camp, highlighting a notable physical improvement. The player felt in the best shape of her professional career, which gave her confidence for her return to the Storm.

Samuelson’s injury adds to that of other important players in the league, such as Georgia Amoore of the Washington Mystics, also with an ACL injury, and Betnijah Laney-Hamilton of the New York Liberty, who will be out due to a meniscus injury in her left knee.

Samuelson, who had not suffered significant injuries since 2019, expressed his regret at not being able to contribute to the team this season, especially with the arrival of new players and the presence of veterans.

I was really looking forward to playing with this group. The leadership of the veterans, the young players. It’s a very special group.

The player will undergo surgery shortly. Despite the difficult road ahead, Samuelson is optimistic and confident in her mental strength to overcome this challenge and return stronger.

Samuelson is supported by her teammates, who have gone through similar situations, and hopes to use her personal experience in mental health to face this process with the best possible attitude.
