Phoenix Mercury Advances to the WNBA Finals
In an exciting match, the Phoenix Mercury achieved an impressive comeback to defeat the Minnesota Lynx with a score of 86-81 in Game 4. This victory secures them a place in the WNBA Finals for the first time since 2021.
Alyssa Thomas led the Mercury’s attack with 23 points, while DeWanna Bonner was key in the final quarter with two crucial three-pointers that fueled the team’s comeback.
The Mercury will face the winner of the series between Indiana and Las Vegas in the championship final.
The game was marked by the absence of Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve, suspended for her behavior in Game 3, and the absence of Napheesa Collier, who suffered an ankle injury.
Despite being down by 13 points at the end of the third quarter, the Mercury managed to close the gap in the score thanks to a three-pointer by Sami Whitcomb.
Bonner took the reins of the game, scoring 11 points in the final quarter, including another three-pointer that gave them the lead. Kayla McBride, from Minnesota, tried to keep her team in the game with her three-pointers, but Bonner secured the victory with free throws.
Satou Sabally also had an outstanding performance with 21 points.
With this victory, Phoenix will seek its first championship since 2014.
Kayla McBride led the Lynx with 31 points, while Courtney Williams added 20 points.
Kahleah Copper hit a three-pointer to give the Mercury their first lead in the third quarter. However, the Lynx responded with a 23-9 run, led by McBride’s three-pointers.
The game began with an early lead for the Lynx, but the Mercury managed to tie the score before halftime thanks to a basket by Thomas.
Sabally led the Mercury with 18 points before halftime.
