Minnesota Lynx Face Difficult Day After Shooting of Legislators
Minnesota Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve acknowledged the difficulty of playing Saturday’s game against the Los Angeles Sparks, following the shooting of two Minnesota lawmakers, one of whom died, in what Governor Tim Walz described as “directed political violence.”A man posing as a police officer killed Minnesota legislator Melissa Hortman and her husband early Saturday morning. A second legislator, Senator John Hoffman, and his wife were injured when the assailant shot them several times. The police were looking for the man responsible for the attacks against the Democratic lawmakers. Bruley, Brooklyn Park police chief, reported that inside a fake police car recovered at one of the shooting scenes, writings were found that mentioned the names of several lawmakers and other officials. Reeve stated that he did not consider canceling Saturday afternoon’s game, which was partly intended to be a celebration of the induction of Seimone Augustus, a member of the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame, in 2024.It seems rather insignificant, certainly, hitting so close to home.

Today is a tough day in every way. Basketball is what we do. We will go out and do what we do. But God knows what, when our game is over, God knows what we are going to walk off the court and learn what is happening. It’s disgusting.
