Courtney Williams and Kayla McBride Renew with the Lynx; Natasha Howard Joins the Team

The Minnesota Lynx are strengthening for the upcoming WNBA season with the renewal of Courtney Williams and Kayla McBride, in addition to the incorporation of Natasha Howard.

Courtney Williams, two-time WNBA All-Star, returns to the Lynx with a two-year contract. Williams has been a key piece for the team’s recent success, helping Minnesota reach the WNBA Finals in 2024 and playing a fundamental role in obtaining the first place in the playoffs last year. The 5’8″ guard averaged 13.6 points, 6.2 assists, and 4.9 rebounds per game with the Lynx last season.

Kayla McBride, a five-time All-Star, has also agreed to a two-year contract with the team. McBride, a veteran with 12 years of experience, averaged 14.2 points per game and 39.5% effectiveness in 3-point shots last season. She finished the season second in the league in three-pointers made (103).

Likewise, the Lynx have reached an agreement to sign two-time All-Star Natasha Howard to a two-year, $1.4 million contract. Howard, 34, returns to Minnesota, where she won a title in 2017, after starting in all 44 games with the Indiana Fever last season. She averaged 11.4 points on 55.2% shooting, 6.6 rebounds and 1.2 steals, and was the WNBA Commissioner’s Cup MVP.

The additions of Williams and McBride mark the Lynx’s first known moves in free agency. The team has lost several players from its 2025 roster, including Bridget Carleton, Alanna Smith, Natisha Hiedeman, and Jessica Shepard.

The situation of the MVP candidate, Napheesa Collier, is uncertain after undergoing surgery on both ankles this offseason. It was announced in January that she was expected to be out of action for four to six months.
