Dijonai Carrington Out for the Season Due to Injury
Minnesota Lynx guard DiJonai Carrington will be unable to participate in the remainder of the WNBA season due to an injury. The team announced on Saturday that Carrington suffered a “significant midfoot sprain.”
Following an MRI, the sprain was confirmed. Initially, Carrington was ruled out for the first game of the WNBA semifinal series against the Phoenix Mercury, scheduled for Sunday.
Carrington’s injury occurred at the end of the second game of the first-round series against the Golden State Valkyries. On Friday, she was seen wearing a walking boot and walking with crutches at the press conference of her teammate Alanna Smith, who received the Defensive Player of the Year award.
The absence of Carrington represents a significant loss for the Minnesota bench, as she was a key player on both sides of the court. In the two first-round games against the Valkyries, she brought offensive dynamism to the team, scoring six points in the first game and 11 in the second.
Carrington, selected for the first defensive team in 2024, also took on the task of defending Golden State’s best guard on the court.
In the 11 regular season games she played with the Lynx, Carrington averaged 8.6 points, with 48.5% field goal efficiency and 45.5% from the three-point line, both personal records. It should be remembered that she missed the last four games of the regular season due to a shoulder injury.
