Minnesota Lynx Bolster Roster with DiJonai Carrington
In a strategic move that shakes up the WNBA, the Minnesota Lynx have secured the services of the talented guard DiJonai Carrington, coming from the Dallas Wings. This trade represents a bold bet by the Lynx, who are looking to consolidate their position as one of the strongest teams in the league.
Carrington, recognized as the Most Improved Player last year, arrives in Minnesota with an impressive record. Her statistics from the current season, including an average of 10.4 points and 5.1 rebounds per game, demonstrate her value on the court.
In return, the Dallas Wings receive forward Diamond Miller, guard Karlie Samuelson, and a second-round pick in the 2027 draft.
Before arriving in Dallas in February, Carrington was part of a trade involving four teams that brought her from the Connecticut Sun.
In 2024, during her time with the Sun, Carrington was selected for the first defensive team, a testament to her impact on both sides of the court.
For his part, Miller, who was the second overall pick in the draft two years ago, averaged 7.1 points per game during his time in Minnesota. Samuelson, who joined the Lynx in April, averaged 3.3 points per game before undergoing surgery on her left foot, which has kept her off the courts since June 29.
To facilitate the transfer, the Wings cut Teaira McCowan, who had a protected veteran contract and averaged 5.6 points and 4.6 rebounds per game.
The Lynx, with a 24-5 record this season, are looking to maintain their dominance in the league. Meanwhile, the Wings, despite having the first overall draft pick, Paige Bueckers, have struggled, losing eight of their last ten games and accumulating an 8-21 record.
