New Injuries Shake the New York Liberty

In a moment when the team’s health seemed to be improving, the New York Liberty are facing new injury challenges. Sabrina Ionescu and Jonquel Jones will miss Thursday night’s game against the Washington Mystics. Ionescu suffered an injury to a toe on his left foot at the end of Wednesday’s training. Jones, for her part, did not feel well on Thursday morning, which made her a late addition to the injury report.

Welcome to the 2025 New York Liberty. It’s been crazy.

Sandy Brondello, Coach
This situation occurs right after Breanna Stewart returned on Monday, after missing 13 games due to a bone contusion in her right knee. Stewart still has minute restrictions and can play around 25 minutes, according to Brondello. For the game against the Mystics, the team has only eight healthy players. Washington coach Sydney Johnson learned of the Liberty stars’ absence shortly before the game.

They have a lot of people. We have big challenges ahead. So Sabrina and JJ won’t be there, but there will be others. I can guarantee that.

Sydney Johnson, Washington Coach
The New York team has a 10-0 record when Ionescu, Jones, and Stewart finish the games. Without them, the record is 13-15. The Liberty are in the thick of the playoff race, half a game behind Phoenix for the fourth seed and home-court advantage in the first round.
