New York Liberty Sets WNBA Three-Point Record

The New York Liberty, the current champions, set a new WNBA regular season record by scoring 19 three-pointers in their 99-74 victory over the Chicago Sky.

The game, played on Thursday night, saw Natasha Cloud lead the Liberty with four three-pointers and 18 points. The effectiveness from the three-point line was impressive, with eight of the nine Liberty players who attempted a three-pointer scoring at least one, finishing with a 56% success rate (19 of 34).

The previous record for most three-pointers in a regular season game was 18.

Cloud also contributed eight assists, while Kennedy Burke scored 17 points off the bench, going a perfect 4-for-4 from three-point range. Sabrina Ionescu added 16 points, Breanna Stewart 12, and Jonquel Jones 11 for the Liberty.

The Liberty demonstrated their dominance in the game with a 55% overall field goal percentage and a 94% free throw percentage (16 of 17).

On the part of the Chicago Sky, Angel Reese had a difficult night, without scoring any points by missing her eight shot attempts. Despite this, Reese managed 12 rebounds, eight of them offensive, and was responsible for five of her team’s 23 turnovers.

The game was marked by the Liberty’s reaction, who closed the first half with a 17-2 run, consolidating their lead. Cloud was key in the last quarter, scoring eight points in a 13-4 run that extended the lead to 30 points.

Rachel Banham led the Sky with 15 points, while Courtney Vandersloot, former Liberty player, contributed 14 points.
