Las Vegas Aces Sets Record and Rises in the WNBA

Las Vegas Aces demonstrated their power by defeating the Atlanta Dream with a score of 81-75 on Wednesday, matching a franchise record with their twelfth consecutive victory and climbing positions in the WNBA standings. The team, led by A’ja Wilson, shined with 34 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 blocks. Jackie Young also had an outstanding performance, achieving her second triple-double of the season with 10 points, 10 assists, and 11 rebounds. The Aces join a select group of WNBA teams, being the tenth to achieve at least a dozen consecutive wins in a season. Aces coach Becky Hammon highlighted the team’s evolution, which previously struggled to maintain a .500 record. “They’re making their presence felt,” Hammon stated. Wilson has reached 11 games with 30 or more points this season, matching his personal best from last year, when he was awarded his third MVP award. Wilson also set a new WNBA record, with the most games in a season with 30 or more points, with 60% or more field goal shooting efficiency. This was her sixth such game, surpassing Cynthia Cooper.

I try to make my workouts and practices very similar to the games, so that it’s familiar. I can figure out how to get to my spots and be productive for my team. That comes from understanding who I am and where I want to go.

Wilson demonstrated his versatility by making 13 of 21 field goals, including two three-pointers that were crucial in changing the course of the game. After the game, Wilson joked, saying: “Don’t call me Curry”, referring to the legendary NBA player Stephen Curry. Wilson’s three-pointers were key to the Aces taking the lead. The Aces managed to withstand the Dream’s comeback attempt in the final quarter, with Loyd and Chelsea Gray hitting decisive three-pointers in the final minute. With a 26-14 record this season, the Aces have performed exceptionally since the All-Star break, with a 15-3 record. They have four games remaining in the regular season, including three at home, and will not play again until September 4th. Coach Hammon expressed her concern about the team’s fatigue due to the tight schedule. “When you talk about gears and the ability to shift into an extra gear, we’ve really been able to do that on the defensive side. And it’s winning us games. Really one of our quality team wins tonight: proof of courage, resilience, toughness,” Hammon stated.
