Las Vegas Aces Set Record and Rise in the WNBA

The Las Vegas Aces continue their impressive streak in the WNBA season, after defeating the Atlanta Dream with a score of 81-75 on Wednesday. This victory not only marks a milestone for the team, but also consolidates them in second place in the league standings. The Wednesday’s triumph equals a franchise record with its twelfth consecutive victory, demonstrating the team’s consistency and dominance on the court.

A’ja Wilson Shines with Stellar Performance

Once again, A’ja Wilson led the Aces with an outstanding performance, scoring 34 points, grabbing 9 rebounds, and blocking 4 shots. Her teammate, Jackie Young, also contributed significantly, achieving her second triple-double of the season with 10 points, 10 assists, and 11 rebounds. With this victory, the Aces join a select group of WNBA teams, being the tenth to achieve at least a dozen consecutive wins in a season.

Wilson Sets New Personal Records

A’ja Wilson has proven to be an unstoppable force, accumulating 11 games with 30 or more points this season, matching her personal best from the previous year, when she won her third MVP award. Wilson holds the WNBA record for most games in a season with 30 or more points, maintaining a shooting percentage of 60% or higher from the field. This was her sixth game with these characteristics, surpassing the previous record of Cynthia Cooper, who had five in 1997.

I try to make my workouts and practices look a lot like games, so it’s familiar. I can figure out how to get to my spots and be productive for my team. That comes from understanding who I am and where I want to go.

A’ja Wilson
A'ja Wilson had her 11th 30-point game of the season, finishing with 34 in Wednesday night's win over the Dream.
Wilson made 13 of 21 field goals on Wednesday in Atlanta, including two three-pointers that tied his season record. The player joked after the match, “Don’t call me Curry”, referring to NBA three-point legend Stephen Curry. However, her two long-range shots were crucial in tilting the match in favor of the Aces. With the score tied at 48-48 with 2:55 left in the third quarter, Wilson hit the first of two consecutive three-pointers, and then hit a 10-foot shot for his own 8-0 run. Loyd closed out the quarter by scoring five more points, giving them a 61-48 lead. The Aces managed to contain the Dream’s comeback attempt in the final quarter, with Loyd and Chelsea Gray hitting key three-pointers in the final minute. With a 26-14 record this season, the Aces have had an exceptional 15-3 performance since the All-Star break and finished August with a 12-1 record. They have four games left in the regular season, including three at home, and will not play again until September 4. All eyes will be on that matchup against the first-place Lynx (30-7) in Las Vegas.

This is our eighth game in 15 days. I was very concerned about the state of our legs going into this game. When you talk about gears and that ability to go up another level, we’ve really been able to do that on the defensive side. And it’s winning us games. Really one of our quality team wins tonight: proof of courage, resilience, toughness.
