Jonquel Jones Returns with 18 Points in Liberty’s Victory Over Fever

In an exciting WNBA matchup, the New York Liberty defeated the Indiana Fever with a score of 98-84. Tuesday night’s game saw the triumphant return of Jonquel Jones, who scored 18 points after recovering from an ankle injury.

Breanna Stewart and Leonie Fiebich each contributed 17 points, while Sabrina Ionescu added 13 points and nine assists. Isabelle Harrison also contributed 13 points, solidifying the victory for the Liberty, who now have a 15-6 record for the season.

This triumph marks New York’s second consecutive victory over Indiana, after their previous encounter last week, where they won 98-77.

Kelsey Mitchell led the Fever with 29 points, in a game where they couldn’t count on Caitlin Clark due to a groin injury.

The first half presented challenges for New York, with Ionescu and Stewart scoring only three and six points, respectively. However, the situation changed drastically in the second half.

The Fever led at halftime with a score of 46-42, taking advantage of the Liberty’s turnovers. They maintained the lead for much of the third quarter, until Stewart made a three-pointer and a layup that put the Liberty back in front in the final minutes.

Ionescu’s return in the final quarter fueled New York’s momentum, scoring 10 consecutive points off the bench and establishing the first double-digit lead of the night.

Jonquel Jones, who had been out since June 19, demonstrated her immediate impact on the team.
