Indiana Fever Signs Odyssey Sims to Hardship Contract

The Indiana Fever have finalized the signing of point guard Odyssey Sims via a hardship contract, the team announced this Sunday.

The Indiana team was able to access this special hiring due to the season-ending injuries of Sydney Colson and Aari McDonald.

Colson suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, while McDonald fractured a bone in his right foot.

Additionally, Indiana still doesn’t have Caitlin Clark, who has been out of action since July 16 due to a groin injury. Clark has missed 18 of the 31 games of the season.

Due to the absences of Colson, McDonald, and Clark, the team was without a defined starting point guard. Before the August 9 game against the Chicago Sky, the team was unable to sign anyone under a hardship contract. League rules require injured players to miss one game before teams can sign a new player. In their 92-70 victory against the Sky, the Fever only had nine players available.

The addition of Sims provides the team with an experienced player in this position. Sims played the first part of this season with the Los Angeles Sparks, where she averaged 9.8 points and 3.5 assists in the 12 games she played with the team before being cut last month.
