Indiana Fever Signs Odyssey Sims to Emergency Contract
The Indiana Fever team has announced the addition of point guard Odyssey Sims through an emergency contract. The news was confirmed on Sunday, providing a crucial reinforcement to the team due to injury absences.
The franchise was able to access this special measure due to the injuries suffered by Sydney Colson and Aari McDonald, who ended their season. Colson suffered a tear of the anterior cruciate ligament in her left knee, while McDonald suffered a fracture in a bone in her right foot.
Additionally, the team continues to be without Caitlin Clark, who has been off the courts since July 16 due to a groin injury. Clark has missed 18 of the 31 games of the season.
In the absence of Colson, McDonald, and Clark, the team found itself without a defined starting point guard. League rules state that teams must wait for injured players to miss a game before they can sign a new player under an emergency contract. The team had only nine players available in its 92-70 victory against the Chicago Sky.
The addition of Sims brings experience to this key position. Previously, she played for the Los Angeles Sparks, where she averaged 9.8 points and 3.5 assists in the 12 games she played before being cut last month.
