Skylar Diggins Makes History with a Triple-Double for the Seattle Storm
In an impressive performance, Skylar Diggins became the second player in Seattle Storm history to achieve a triple-double. The feat occurred in just three quarters of Monday’s game against Connecticut. Diggins finished the game with 11 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists, in a record time of 22 minutes and 51 seconds. According to records, this is the shortest time taken to achieve a triple-double in the WNBA. Diggins’ performance was key in the Storm’s victory with a score of 101-85 over Connecticut, after having maintained a lead of up to 32 points. Before this achievement, Temeka Johnson was the only Storm player with a triple-double, achieved in 2014. This is not Diggins’ only achievement, as she also achieved the first triple-double in the history of the WNBA All-Star Game this month.Diggins attributed her focus on rebounds to a conversation with Seattle coach Noelle Quinn during the All-Star break. Seven of her 11 assists were for Nneka Ogwumike, who led the game with 26 points.Reiterating the rebound and chasing the ball, and how that helps us in the counterattack, just that mentality. I know I can rebound, but I really tried to chase it tonight. Then, obviously, the targets I can pass to, Nneka being one of them, people got open.

It’s very rare that someone achieves that kind of thing, but when it happens, it makes sense when certain players do it and Sky is at the top of that list. I wouldn’t want to experience a triple-double with anyone else.

Diggins had an outstanding performance, especially after a previous game where he did not achieve his best performance. When Diggins made the free throws that completed the triple-double, the Storm’s bench erupted in celebration. Sky is a special player, and we all know it. She has been through a lot, especially this regular season. For her to do it today, here, on the road in a game that we really needed, was a special moment that she could share with her teammates. And I love that everyone loved that for her. It’s like the reward, you know, being coachable and understanding that rebounding isn’t just for getting a triple-double or stats, but to help us as a team. We were plus 11, I think, on the boards today. We can’t just depend on our post players.
