Scandal in the WNBA: Behind the Sex Toy Launches
A self-proclaimed cryptocurrency enthusiast revealed to Alofoke Deportes details about the group that has been orchestrating recent incidents in WNBA games, where sex toys have been thrown onto the field. The man, who preferred to remain anonymous, explained that these actions are part of a strategy to promote a cryptocurrency created by their online community. The WNBA, with its growing media attention, became a strategic target to attract attention. The individual, known on the social network X as “Lt. Daldo Raine”, claims that the group seeks to revitalize the creative and community aspect of the cryptocurrency world, using memes and eye-catching actions to achieve this. The launch of the digital currency, according to the informant, took place on July 28, one day before the first incident at a WNBA game. The Telegram community, with over a thousand users, demonstrated prior knowledge and celebrated the first launch of a sex toy during the game between Atlanta Dream and Golden State Valkyries on July 29. In the chat, links to the game were shared and derogatory comments towards the league were posted. Hours later, the game was interrupted due to the launch of a green sex toy. Since then, arrests related to these incidents have been made. Delbert Carver, 23 years old, was arrested in Atlanta and faces charges for his alleged involvement. However, the informant assured that Carver is not affiliated with the group and was not responsible for the first launch. On August 1st, another incident occurred in a match between Chicago Sky and Golden State Valkyries. Indiana Fever player Sophie Cunningham expressed her concern on X, asking for the throws to be stopped. Additionally, the group planned incidents in four more stadiums last Tuesday. Kaden Lopez, 18 years old, was arrested in Phoenix during the match between Mercury and Connecticut Sun. Lopez threw a sex toy and hit two spectators, including a minor. He was celebrated as a “hero” in the group’s Telegram chat. The group also tried to throw a sex toy at the New York Liberty against Dallas Wings match, but they did not achieve their goal. A similar incident occurred in Los Angeles during the game between the Sparks and Fever, impacting Cunningham. The WNBA issued a statement emphasizing stadium safety and warning about sanctions for those who throw objects onto the field. Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve criticized the situation, calling it a sexualization of women and demanding accountability. The informant revealed that more actions are planned, although of a less disruptive nature, to maintain attention. The price of the cryptocurrency associated with these events has experienced a significant increase, and searches for “green dildo” skyrocketed online. In addition, online bets were created on the incidents, generating profits for some members of the group. The group plans to carry out similar actions at other sporting events, including an MLB game between the Marlins and the Astros. The goal is to maintain attention and continue promoting their cryptocurrency.“It was an opportunistic approach to capitalize on what’s already trending. Where is there controversy and how can we intercept that attention?”, the man stated.
