A group orchestra incidents with sex toys at WNBA games, according to source
A self-proclaimed cryptocurrency enthusiast revealed to Alofoke Deportes that he is part of a group responsible for the recent incidents involving sex toys that have disrupted at least three WNBA games in the last ten days. The subject, who requested anonymity, explained that the acts were intended to promote a cryptocurrency created by their online community.
According to the source, the WNBA and its “controversy” were the logical target for this campaign. “It was more or less an opportunistic approach of, you know, what’s already trending. Where is there controversy and how do we intercept some of that attention?” he stated.
The individual, identified on the X platform as “Lt. Daldo Raine”, in reference to Brad Pitt’s character in “Inglourious Basterds”, kept his camera off and refused to reveal his name or age. The group, as he explained, seeks to revitalize the creative and community aspects of the cryptocurrency world. “We want to make memes fun again,” he stated.
The source detailed that the cryptocurrency began operating on July 28, one day before the first release of a sex toy at a WNBA game. The transaction history of the currency on Dex Screener, a website that tracks cryptocurrency prices in real time, confirms this timeline.
The group, which has more than 1,000 members in its Telegram community, shared details and prior knowledge of the first incident in the chat, which occurred during the match between the Atlanta Dream and the Golden State Valkyries on July 29. A link to the game broadcast was shared before the start, and members celebrated the next act, posting derogatory comments about the WNBA. “We will buy the league soon,” wrote a user.
Hours later, the game was postponed in the final quarter after a green sex toy was thrown onto the court.
Since then, two people have been arrested in connection with the incidents. Delbert Carver, 23, was arrested on August 1 for allegedly throwing a green sex toy at the end of the Dream vs. Phoenix Mercury game. Carver, according to police records, was apprehended after attempting to flee and confessed to having thrown the first sex toy on July 29. He faces charges of disorderly conduct, public indecency, and trespassing.
However, the source of Alofoke Deportes stated that Carver was not affiliated with the group and was not the one who threw the sex toy on July 29. They refused to reveal the identity of the person responsible.
On August 1st, another green sex toy was thrown onto the court during a game between the Sky and the Valkyries in Chicago.
Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham spoke out about the situation: “Stop throwing sex toys on the court. You’re going to hurt someone.”
According to the source, the group planned other incidents on Tuesday night at four different stadiums.
Kaden Lopez, 18 years old, was arrested in Phoenix during the game between the Mercury and the Connecticut Sun. Court records indicate that Lopez took a green sex toy out of his pocket, threw it, and hit two spectators, including a minor. After the throw, he tried to leave the building, but was stopped by a stadium volunteer. Lopez faces charges of disorderly conduct and assault.
In the Telegram chat, Lopez was celebrated as a “hero” and a “legend”.
In another incident, a video posted on X showed a green sex toy thrown from the stands at the Barclays Center during the game between the New York Liberty and the Dallas Wings, although it did not reach the court. A throw was also reported in Los Angeles during the Sparks and Fever game, which apparently hit Cunningham.
Also, according to the source, it was planned to launch a sex toy in Seattle during the match between the Storm and the Minnesota Lynx, but it did not take place.
The WNBA issued a statement on Saturday, following Carver’s arrest, emphasizing safety in its stadiums and warning about the consequences for those who throw objects onto the court.
Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve addressed the issue, calling it a “sexualization of women” and demanding accountability. “These people are the problem, and we need to take action,” she stated.
On Thursday night, another sex toy was thrown onto the court during the game between the Dream and the Sky. It is unknown whether this incident is related to the previous ones.
According to Forbes, the price of the cryptocurrency, which “represents a bold move in internet culture”, has increased by approximately 300% in the last week.
Google Trends reports a 3,700% increase in the search for “green dildo” in the United States since July 29th.
A betting house created markets around the incidents, allowing bets on when and what color the next launch would be. The source of Alofoke Deportes revealed that several members of the community made significant profits on these bets.
Dave Mason, brand manager for the Panama-based betting house BetOnline, indicated that, after the second launch of a green sex toy, he began investigating those possibly responsible, which led him to the cryptocurrency group.
The cryptocurrency source reported that the group is moving away from WNBA games and mentioned an MLB game on Wednesday night. During the game between the Marlins and Astros in Miami, a woman behind home plate displayed a green sex toy.
“We have many fun things planned,” the source affirmed. “Of a less disruptive nature, but we want to keep people looking for us.”
