A group orchestra incidents with sex toys at WNBA games, according to source
A self-proclaimed cryptocurrency enthusiast revealed to Alofoke Deportes that he is part of a group responsible for the recent incidents involving sex toys that have disrupted at least three WNBA games in the last two weeks. The man, who requested anonymity, explained that the acts were aimed at promoting a cryptocurrency created by his online community. According to the source, the WNBA and its “controversy” made it a logical target for their actions. “It was more or less an opportunistic approach to, you know, what’s already trending. Where is there already controversy and how do we intercept some of that attention?” he commented. The individual, who uses the username Lt. Daldo Raine on X, in reference to Brad Pitt’s character in the movie “Inglourious Basterds”, kept his camera off and refused to reveal his name or age during the interview. The group seeks, according to him, to recover the creative and community aspects of the cryptocurrency world: “We want to make memes fun again.”The source stated that the currency began trading on July 28, one day before the first sex toy was launched at a WNBA game. The transaction history of the currency on Dex Screener, a website that tracks real-time cryptocurrency prices, confirms that timeline. The group, which has more than 1,000 users in its Telegram community, shared a link to the match broadcast before the start and celebrated the upcoming incident, posting derogatory comments about the WNBA. “We will buy the league soon,” wrote a member of the group. Hours later, the game was postponed after a green sex toy was thrown onto the court. Since then, two people have been arrested in connection with the incidents. Delbert Carver, 23, was arrested on August 1 for allegedly throwing a green sex toy at the Atlanta Dream vs. Phoenix Mercury game. According to police records, Carver was apprehended after attempting to flee and confessed to throwing the first toy on July 29. He faces charges of disorderly conduct, indecent exposure, and trespassing. However, the Alofoke Deportes source stated that Carver was not affiliated with the group and was not the one who threw the toy on July 29. They refused to reveal who was responsible. On August 1st, a green sex toy was thrown onto the court during a game between the Sky and Valkyries in Chicago. Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham spoke out about it: “Stop throwing dildos on the court. You’re going to hurt one of us,” she posted on X. According to the source, the group planned other incidents on Tuesday night at four different stadiums. Kaden Lopez, 18, was arrested in Phoenix during the game between Mercury and Connecticut Sun. Court records indicate that Lopez took a green sex toy out of his pocket, threw it, and hit two spectators, including a minor. He was charged with disorderly conduct and assault. A felony charge of public display of obscene material was dropped. Lopez was celebrated as a “hero” and “legend” in the group’s Telegram chat. Also on Tuesday, a video posted on X showed a green sex toy that was thrown from the stands at the Barclays Center during the New York Liberty vs. Dallas Wings game, but it didn’t reach the court. A sex toy was thrown onto the court in Los Angeles during a Sparks vs. Fever game on Tuesday and apparently hit Cunningham. In addition, a throw was planned in Seattle during the Storm vs. Lynx game, but it did not take place. The WNBA issued a statement on Saturday, after Carver’s arrest: “The safety and well-being of everyone in our arenas is a priority for our league. Objects of any kind thrown onto the court or into the stands can pose a safety risk to players, referees, and fans. In accordance with WNBA Security Standards, any fan who intentionally throws an object onto the court will be immediately ejected and will face a minimum one-year ban, in addition to being subject to arrest and prosecution by local authorities.” Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve addressed the issue with reporters after practice: “This has been happening for centuries, the sexualization of women. This is the latest version of that. And it’s not funny. These people who are doing this should be held accountable… They are the problem, and we need to take action.” On Thursday night, another sex toy was thrown onto the court during the Dream-Sky game. It is unknown if the incident was related to the previous ones. According to a value tracker on Forbes, the price of the currency, which “represents a bold move in internet culture, giving holders a voice in a fun, fearless, and fast-growing community,” has increased approximately 300% in the last week. According to Google Trends, there has been a 3,700% increase in search interest in the United States for “green dildo” since July 29th. A betting website created markets around sex toy incidents, allowing users to bet on when another launch would occur and what color the dildo would be. According to the source, several community members made and won bets. “There were several people who bet a lot because we knew what was going on,” the source said. Dave Mason, brand manager for the Panama-based online sportsbook BetOnline, said that when the second sex toy was also green, he began to look for who might be orchestrating the incidents. That’s how he found the cryptocurrency group. The cryptocurrency source told Alofoke Deportes that the group was moving away from WNBA games and highlighted an MLB game on Wednesday night. During the Marlins-Astros game in Miami, a woman sitting behind home plate was holding a green sex toy. The source added: “We have many fun things planned. Of a less disruptive nature, but we want people to keep looking for us.”We want to make memes fun again.
