Caitlin Clark out of action for crucial Fever vs. Storm matchup

INDIANAPOLIS – Caitlin Clark has been ruled out for the important season-ending game between the Indiana Fever and the Seattle Storm that will be played on Tuesday.

The announcement came as Indiana updated its injury report on Monday. Veteran forward Chloe Bibby will miss her second straight game due to a left knee issue.

The availability of Fever players and coaches for the media was not planned.

Clark hasn’t played or trained since he injured his right groin on July 15. At the same time, he has been undergoing rehabilitation for a bone contusion in his left ankle that he suffered during a training session earlier this month, as confirmed by a source.

Clark did participate in the pre-game warm-up on Sunday in Minnesota. The Fever have lost two consecutive games against the league-leading Lynx, a team Clark followed closely while growing up in Iowa.

Last season’s WNBA Rookie of the Year is averaging 16.5 points, 8.8 assists, and 5.0 rebounds in 13 games this season. However, she has missed 24 games, including the last 15, due to her third muscle injury of the season.

Coach Stephanie White has said there is no timetable for Clark’s return. However, White did say that she expects Clark to return before the end of the regular season.

The Indiana Fever have seven games remaining and enter Tuesday’s game tied with the expansion team, the Golden State Valkyries, for the last two playoff spots, one game ahead of the Los Angeles Sparks, whom the Fever visit on Friday, and half a game behind Seattle for the sixth spot.

Fever guards Aari McDonald, Sydney Colson, and Sophie Cunningham have suffered injuries that have sidelined them for the season.
