Women’s Basketball Stars Prepare for the U.S. National Team Camp

The world of women’s basketball is preparing for a momentous event. Caitlin Clark, Paige Bueckers, Angel Reese, and JuJu Watkins, along with other promising players, will make their debut at the U.S. national basketball team camp next month. The event, which will take place at Duke University from December 12th to 14th, will bring together some of the most outstanding players in the sport. This training camp is an important milestone in the preparation for future international tournaments.

Veterans and New Faces: A Blend of Talent

The camp will feature the participation of 18 players, including experienced figures such as Chelsea Gray, Brittney Griner, Kelsey Plum, Jackie Young, Kahleah Copper, and Dearica Hamby, Olympic medalists and world champions. They will be joined by young talents seeking to consolidate their place on the team. Brionna Jones, a member of the 2022 World Cup team, and Aliyah Boston, the No. 1 WNBA draft pick in 2023, will also be present.

Camp Debutantes

The debut group at the national team camp includes Cameron Brink, Lauren Betts, Sonia Citron, Kiki Iriafen, Rickea Jackson, and Veronica Burton. These players will have the opportunity to prove their worth and aspire to a place on the national team. Clark, Bueckers, Watkins, Brink, Betts, Boston, and Citron have already won gold medals with USA Basketball in youth competitions, while Betts, Boston, Reese, Burton, and Jackson were part of Team USA at the FIBA Women’s AmeriCup. Iriafen will make her debut with USA Basketball.

A Camp with an Eye to the Future

The camp will serve as an evaluation platform for the new general manager of the U.S. women’s national team, Sue Bird, who will be tasked with selecting the team for the 2026 FIBA World Cup, where the United States will seek its fifth consecutive gold. The camp will be led by the new national team head coach, Kara Lawson, currently a coach at Duke, with WNBA coaches Natalie Nakase, Nate Tibbetts, and Stephanie White as court coaches.
