Indianapolis witnessed a new episode in the growing rivalry between Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese, during the matchup between the Indiana Fever and the Chicago Sky. The game, which marked the start of the season for both teams, was marked by a controversial play that heightened the tension on the court.

The controversy arose in the third quarter, with 4:38 remaining on the clock, when Clark committed a foul on Reese. After grabbing an offensive rebound, Reese was hit on the arm by Clark, losing the ball and falling to the ground. Reese’s reaction was immediate, confronting Clark, which forced the intervention of Aliyah Boston, center for the Fever, to separate the players.

After reviewing the play, the referees determined a flagrant foul of type one for Clark and sanctioned both players with double technical fouls.

Clark’s foul was his third personal of the game.

There was nothing malicious about the foul, it was a basketball play.

In an interview during the game, Clark stated that the foul was a game play incident, without malicious intent.

The tension remained high at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, where fans celebrated when Reese missed the first free throw. However, Reese made the second, and Chicago took advantage of the possession to get closer on the scoreboard, reducing the deficit to 56-45.

In the first half, Clark accumulated 12 points, four rebounds, three assists, and three blocks, tying her personal record. For her part, Reese recorded seven points and nine rebounds in the first two quarters.
