Caitlin Clark Nears Return with the Indiana Fever

Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark could be close to returning to action, according to the team’s coaching staff. Although she did not participate in Tuesday’s game against Seattle, her recovery appears to be underway. Coach Stephanie White revealed that Clark, who was the Rookie of the Year last season, participated in a light workout on Monday as part of her reconditioning process to return to play.

“She participated in the training yesterday. I want to see her in practice. In real practice. I want to see her continue to work not only to increase her endurance, but also to handle the contact along the 94 feet, as it will be in the game, and be able to do it and sustain it from the point of view of endurance,” said White.

White added that Clark will need several practice sessions to be ready to play again. The star point guard has been absent for 24 games this season due to muscle injuries, including the last 15 games due to a right groin strain. In the 13 games she has played, Clark averages 16.5 points, 8.8 assists, and 5.0 rebounds. Clark, who hasn’t played or practiced since July 15, participated in the warm-up before Sunday’s game in Minnesota. After Tuesday’s game, Indiana has six games remaining in the regular season. The team is tied with Golden State in the fight for the last two playoff spots, one game ahead of the Los Angeles Sparks, whom the Fever will face on Friday, and half a game behind Seattle, who are in sixth place. Clark’s popularity has driven an increase in league attendance and television audiences. In addition, it was announced on Tuesday that Clark became the new Nike signature athlete.

“There are very few people who have the opportunity to say they have a logo and to cause the impact that she causes, not only in sports, but worldwide, simply for being who she is. She is a connector. She unites people,” commented White.
