Candace Parker criticizes the performance in the WNBA All-Star Game
The seven-time WNBA All-Star, Candace Parker, expressed her discontent with the effort shown in the All-Star Game. Parker, in a podcast aired on Wednesday, called the meeting “horrible”.Parker was referring to the warm-up shirts that both teams wore on July 19, in response to the failed collective bargaining negotiations with the league earlier that week. The players are seeking a salary increase and better benefits, among other improvements. The game set a record for points scored in a WNBA All-Star game, and Napheesa Collier set the individual mark with 36 points. Team Collier defeated Team Clark 151-131. The defense was minimal, as the league’s stars allowed their rivals to shoot unopposed. Although similar to the All-Star games in other professional leagues, Parker expected more from the WNBA players, especially at a time of so much media attention. “I think in one of the most important scenarios, in an All-Star environment that had more investment than any previous All-Star game… I think it really would have maximized the moment.” Fever forward Aliyah Boston, who played on Team Clark, defended her teammates’ performance. “In an All-Star Game, where we have another game in two days, I think it’s okay to go out and play and have fun,” he said. “Because on Tuesday, we got back to the action, and we proved once again why we deserve to get paid.”They can’t wear those ‘Pay us what you owe us’ shirts and then do that.
