Cameron Brink Ready to Debut with the Sparks
Cameron Brink, the second pick in the 2024 WNBA draft, is set to make her season debut with the Los Angeles Sparks on Tuesday night against the Las Vegas Aces. The expected return comes 13 months after suffering a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his left knee. Both Brink and Sparks coach Lynne Roberts confirmed the news on Monday during practice, as Los Angeles prepares for Tuesday’s matchup, which comes after a five-game winning streak, the best in the league. Roberts indicated that Brink will likely have a minutes restriction upon his return to the court.Brink, national champion in 2021 with Stanford, had announced the previous weekend in New York that she was cleared to return and was preparing to be ready for the game. The 6-foot-4-inch (1.93 meters) player averaged 7.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 2.3 blocks before suffering the injury on June 18, 2024, during her rookie season. In addition to missing the rest of the WNBA season, she also had to miss the 2024 Paris Olympics, despite having been selected for the United States 3×3 basketball team.“It means a lot. I am very excited and humbled by this experience. It’s not easy to come back from this. I am very excited,” Brink stated.

The Sparks finished last season with an 8-32 record and hired Roberts as their new coach in November. In this season, the team is in tenth place in the standings, but, thanks to their current winning streak, they are only one game away from the playoff spots. Los Angeles will have its full roster of 11 players available for the first time this season and hopes that Brink, an elite rim protector, can help improve the defense.“I’m not a very patient person, if you know me. This whole process has taught me a lot,” Brink stated.

“Great attitude and great energy. I always say that my energy is my currency. Being a great teammate. I think we’ve been winning because we’re having a lot of fun. So just bringing that every day,” Brink said about what she hopes to bring.

“It’s been tremendous. It’s difficult. The offseason is one thing, but when your teammates are out there and you’re doing leg curls, it’s difficult. And she’s been a tremendous teammate. I’m very, very proud of her,” Roberts added.
