Caitlin Clark Ready to Debut with the U.S. National Team

The star of women’s basketball, Caitlin Clark, is set for her debut with the United States national team next week. The anticipated match will take place in the FIBA World Cup qualifier in Puerto Rico. This will be Clark’s first game in approximately eight months, a period marked by injuries that affected her season in the WNBA with the Indiana Fever in July.

It’ll probably take me a second to shake off the rust. I’ll be a little nervous, something that doesn’t usually happen to me, but I guess it’s because I haven’t played basketball in a while.

Clark has been working hard to recover. Last season, he played in 13 games, facing groin injuries and a bone contusion in his left ankle. In recent months, he has been training intensely, collaborating with the medical team and the Fever’s player development staff.

I have always trusted my work. I feel like this has made me push myself harder. But it’s also the part that sucks, because I felt like I dedicated so much time and energy to last season and, obviously, I only played in about 13 games.

Clark fondly remembers his experiences in the USA Basketball youth teams. He recalls his visit to Colorado Springs, Colorado, as a teenager, and the excitement of seeing a room full of jerseys of great American figures from the past.

My eyes widened, I thought it was the coolest thing in the world. [See] the national team jerseys of great male and female players. It’s the dream of a 15 or 16 year old to do that someday.

Clark is aware that this is only the first step with the national team. After the controversy of not being included in the Paris 2024 Olympic team, she now has her sights set on next autumn’s World Cup and the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

There’s a long way to go to get to that point. Obviously, that’s my goal, the World Cup before that. I have a lot to learn.
