Caitlin Clark Suffers Mild Ankle Injury, But Recovery Continues

Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark suffered a minor bone bruise after twisting her left ankle during a practice earlier this month, a source confirmed.

The injury, which occurred on August 7, has not altered the schedule for Clark’s return. The source also indicated that, even without the ankle sprain, Clark would not be playing currently due to the rehabilitation of a right groin injury that has kept her off the courts for more than a month of the WNBA season.

This new injury adds to the groin injury, which represents an additional challenge in his recovery process.

Clark has participated in only 13 matches this season, his last appearance was on July 15. Before this year, he had not missed any match in his professional or college career.

So far this summer, Clark was also affected by injuries to her left quadriceps and left groin.

Currently, Clark is limited to rehabilitation exercises and individual work, focusing on running across the entire court. He has not yet returned to training with the team.

Indiana coach Stephanie White mentioned on Sunday that the “hope” is that Clark will return before the end of the regular season. On Wednesday, she added: “Until she can participate in training and you see her in practice, the situation remains the same.”

The Indiana Fever (19-16) have nine games remaining in the regular season as they seek to qualify for the playoffs for the second year in a row. The team is now facing a shortage of guards, following injuries to Aari McDonald, Sydney Colson, and Sophie Cunningham, who will be unable to play for the rest of the season.

Clark, the first pick of the 2024 draft and chosen for the WNBA’s first team in her debut season, has averaged 16.5 points, 8.8 assists, and 5.0 rebounds in the 13 games she has played this season.
