Caitlin Clark misses the Commissioner’s Cup championship game

Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark will not participate in the WNBA Commissioner’s Cup championship game on Tuesday night, the team announced. Clark, who has been dealing with a groin injury, was initially listed as questionable for the game against the Minnesota Lynx at the Target Center. The player was not on the court during the practice time open to the media on Tuesday, and the team subsequently confirmed that she would not play. Clark has missed three consecutive games due to this groin issue. Previously, he missed five games at the beginning of the season due to a quadriceps injury.

Although the Cup final is an additional match and does not count towards the WNBA’s 44-game regular season, Clark’s absence is notable.

On Monday, Clark participated in a practice in Indiana, although without contact, according to coach Stephanie White. Clark was the player most voted for by the fans and was named a starter and captain of the All-Star on the same day. The All-Star Game will be held on July 19 in Indianapolis. The Lynx, with a 14-2 record, lead the WNBA and are the current champions of the Commissioner’s Cup. The Fever, with an 8-8 record, are playing for the Cup for the first time since the championship event began in 2021. The winning team from Tuesday will receive a prize of $500,000.
