Brionna Jones Suffers Injury, But Would Be Ready for the WNBA Season
The prominent basketball player Brionna Jones, a four-time WNBA All-Star, suffered a meniscus tear last week while playing for USK Praha, according to her agent. Despite this injury, Jones is expected to recover in time for the start of the WNBA season.
Jones, who will miss the rest of the season with the Czech team, will return to the United States this weekend to undergo surgery, according to his agent, Boris Lelchitski.
The USK Praha club announced on social media that Jones tried to “resolve the situation through conservative treatment” before determining that surgery was necessary.
The 6-foot-3 power forward has established herself as one of the best interior players in the WNBA, earning the Most Improved Player and Sixth Player of the Year awards in 2021 and 2022, respectively, making her a regular All-Star.
After spending her entire career with the Connecticut Sun (2017-24), Jones signed with the Atlanta Dream in free agency in the previous offseason. In 2025, she averaged 12.8 points and 7.3 rebounds, accumulating 12 double-doubles with the Dream.
Like most veterans in the league, Jones is a free agent this offseason, as the league awaits a new collective bargaining agreement that is expected to include significant salary increases.
The WNBA season is scheduled to begin on May 8, but a new collective bargaining agreement, a two-team expansion draft, and free agency must be finalized first.
