Wings look forward to a bright future with the first WNBA draft pick

The Dallas Wings, with the first pick in the WNBA draft, are in a favorable position to build a successful franchise. The history of the league shows that having consecutive top draft picks is often a great boost for a team. The Sunday lottery draw held no surprises, as the top five teams (Wings, Minnesota Lynx, Seattle Storm, Washington Mystics, and Chicago Sky) maintained their positions according to the odds. In the mock draft prior to the lottery, Awa Fam, a young Spanish player, was the number one projection. However, after Azzi Fudd, UConn’s guard, showcased her shooting at the Hall of Fame Women’s Showcase, attention is focused on the Huskies’ senior. Last season, Paige Bueckers was the first draft pick and was named WNBA Rookie of the Year in 2025. Both Bueckers and Fudd are elite players who could be the key pieces to bring the Wings back to the playoffs. Bueckers and Fudd have proven to be good teammates, leading the Huskies to a national championship. WNBA labor negotiations are still ongoing, and after a new collective bargaining agreement, expansion drafts will be held for the new franchises in Toronto and Portland, Oregon, in addition to free agency. All this will occur before the April draft, when we will have more information about the composition of each team. Here’s the most recent mock draft, which again includes four UCLA players among the top picks.
  • Dallas Wings: Azzi Fudd (UConn, guard, senior). In victories over Michigan and Utah, Fudd scored a total of 55 points with a 58.1% success rate. This season, she averages 21.0 points per game with 51.1% field goal shooting and 54.8% from the three-point line.
  • Minnesota Lynx: Awa Fam (Spain, center). Her agent said that competing in the WNBA is her “top priority” for 2026. She currently plays in Valencia and will turn 20 in June.
  • Seattle Storm: Olivia Miles (TCU, guard, senior). Miles averages 18.3 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 7.5 assists.
  • Washington Mystics: Lauren Betts (UCLA, center, senior). Betts was number 1 in our first 2026 mock draft.
  • Chicago Sky: Flau’jae Johnson (LSU, guard, senior). Johnson averages 17.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 3.7 assists.
  • Toronto Tempo: Ta’Niya Latson (South Carolina, guard, senior). Latson led Division I in scoring with 25.2 points per game last season with Florida State.
  • Portland Fire: Cotie McMahon (Ole Miss, forward, senior). McMahon averages 17.5 points and 6.5 rebounds.
  • Golden State Valkyries: Gianna Kneepkens (UCLA, guard, senior). Kneepkens averages 12.7 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 3.7 assists.
  • Washington Mystics: Serah Williams (UConn, power forward, senior). Williams averages 7.2 points and 4.3 rebounds.
  • Indiana Fever: Madina Okot (South Carolina, center, senior). Okot averages 13.3 points, leads South Carolina in rebounds (10.8) and blocks (2.2).
  • Washington Mystics: Gabriela Jaquez (UCLA, guard, senior). Jaquez averages 14.0 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 2.8 assists.
  • Connecticut Sun: Iyana Martin Carrion (Spain, guard).
  • Atlanta Dream: Kiki Rice (UCLA, guard, senior). Rice averages 14.0 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 3.7 assists.
  • Seattle Storm: Janiah Barker (Tennessee, power forward, senior). Barker averages 15.2 points and 6.5 rebounds.
  • Connecticut Sun: Nell Angloma (France, forward). Angloma averaged 17.0 points and 5.5 rebounds in the U19 Women’s World Cup this summer.
