Allie Quigley, WNBA Legend, Announces Official Retirement

Former Chicago Sky guard and WNBA shooting legend Allie Quigley has officially announced her retirement from basketball, three years after playing her last game. Quigley enjoyed a 14-year career in the WNBA, playing for the Chicago Sky from 2013 to 2022. During her time with the team, she became a three-time All-Star and a four-time three-point contest champion, a record in the WNBA and the NBA. Although the retirement of the former DePaul player and Joliet, Illinois native was something that was assumed, she made it public this week.

“I simply took the 2023 season off… then I took the 2024 season off… then I took the 2025 season off… you get the idea”, Quigley wrote.

Quigley explained that she was close to retiring after 2021, the year that she and her wife, Courtney Vandersloot, led the Sky to the franchise’s first WNBA title. Quigley also revealed that she expected to get pregnant quickly and perhaps play one more season after having a baby, “but things didn’t happen as quickly as we would have liked. But they happened!”. Quigley and Vandersloot welcomed their first daughter, Jana Christine, on April 8th of this year, and with her arrival, Quigley “feels ready to finally and officially say goodbye to her basketball career”. Before arriving in Chicago, Quigley played in the WNBA for Phoenix, Indiana, San Antonio, and Seattle. The Storm initially selected her in the second round of the 2008 draft before waiving her in training camp, but she was eventually signed by the Mercury and spent her first two seasons in the league with them. Quigley averaged 10.9 points and 39.4% from three-point range during her career and became a dominant force in the WNBA three-point contest, which she won in 2017, 2018, 2021, and 2022. She also won two Sixth Player of the Year awards with the Sky.

“I love knowing that I can look back on my career and say it was really, really good, but it was part of the beginning of something truly great,” Quigley said.

Quigley was the Sky franchise’s all-time leading scorer until last month, when she was surpassed by Vandersloot. Vandersloot suffered a torn ACL that ended her season last weekend.
